The International 2023 Compendium Overview: Price, Content and Rewards of a brand-new "Battle Pass"

The night of 28 September 2023 was a special night for fans of Valve games. The company released 2 expected products at once: CS 2 and Compendium in Dota 2. And if the release of Counter-Strike 2 is a large-scale and historical event, the new concept of the familiar to all fans of Dota 2 Battle Passes looks at least controversial.

Valve has completely rethought the main "candy" of Dota 2. The new Compendium got rid of the standard ribbon of rewards and classic leveling, Catacombs and skins, and became more The International interactive, or even creative: players are offered unique quests, updated Fantasy and even Bingo.

In this post we'll talk about all the changes to the Compendium, its cost, pumping options, as well as rewards - already available and future ones.

How much The International 2023 Compendium costs

The changes in the concept of the Battle Pass have brought about changes in the price. While previously you could choose 1 of 3 versions of the Battle Pass ($10, $29,$35 and $45), now there are only 2 versions left:

• Basic Compendium The International 2023 Level 1 - priced at $7.50.
• Premium Compendium The International 2023 Level 50 - a value of $29.99.

Thus, the cost of the Compendium in 2023 varies from $7.50 to $30, which is cheaper than in previous years. But this change is due to a change in the content portion of the Compendium.

The Compendium 2023 activities are Road to Ti Challenge, Fantasy, Oracle Challenge and Bingo.

Compendium 2023 has lost its usual structure of activities. In addition to the familiar Catacombs Battle Pass and weekly quests, there are more advanced Challenges and activities - Road to Ti Challenge, Fantasy, Oracle Challenge and Bingo.

Road to TI Challenge

The Road to The International challenge offers players the chance to experience being in the shoes of professionals. Valve has created a series of quests with conditions unique to Dota 2: in these quests players are offered to win on one of the heroes offered, but the pool of heroes is directly related to the participants of The International 2023. That is, you'll have a conditional match between Liquid Grand Final - Gladiators and The Bali Major 2023, where you need to win on one of the heroes that GG picked on the second map. It looks like this:

There are a total of 6 such quests per month, and the months themselves are 8. That is, there are 48 quests, and of varying difficulty. When you complete a quest, you pump up the Compendium. For example, completing the quest January 2023 gives 1,000 points, which is equal to 1 level of the Compendium.

Fantasy

Fantasy remains Fantasy, but with some minor changes. For example, teams now consist of 3 players instead of the usual 5. You'll still be given your choice of Core position player, mid laner, and ѕuprrort. Here's what it looks like: Fantasy is available for every round of The International 2023. That is, the team should be assembled for the group stage of The International 2023 (12-15 October), the first round of play-offs, aka Playoffs Weekends (20-22 October) and the second round of play-offs or Final Weekends (27-29 October).

Oracle Challenge

"Oracle Challenge" is a kind of reimagining of the betting tier of The International grid. Everything is the same as before, but with distribution at the championship stage.

Bingo

Bingo is a brand new Compendium activity that has never been seen before. Bingo works like this: each player receives a random Bingo card before the Long Run of each tournament stage (Group Stage, Playoffs Weekend and Final Weekends). Each cell contains certain conditions that can be fulfilled to collect Bingo:

Each row of Bingo, both horizontal and vertical, gives Compendium points, and they give levels.

The International 2023 Compendium Rewards: What You Can Get in The International 2023 Compendium

This year's Compendium rewards look a little different than what we've seen in previous years with Battle Passes. Valve has done away with the cosmetic component completely, leaving only small flecks of them:

• Team Capsules
• Player Capsules
• Teleportation effect
• The International 2023 HUD
• Permanent phrases for the chat wheel
• Collector`s Aegis

The main reward of the Compendium is the collectible Aegis. Everyone who has completed Compendium up to level 300 will get it. It can be used to make a profile in Dota 2, as well as a physical copy at a ratio of 1 to 5.

With the updated Compendium rewards for The International 2023, "Boosts" have been introduced in Dota 2. This is another new Compendium feature previously unavailable in the game. Essentially, Boosts are the analogue of levels, only with them you can get a specifically selected reward. Additionally, using them on any reward pumps "levels" to knock out Collectors Aegis.

How to Pump Compendium for The International 2023

With the change in structure of the once Battle Pass and now Compendium, the process of pumping its levels has changed. The lion's share of levels used to be obtained by going to the Catacombs, where chests with Battle Pass points were randomly dropped (250 from a small chest and 2000 points from a large chest). In addition, levels could be pumped up through weekly quests, tournament predictions, and so on.

In The International 2023 Compendium, the catacombs have disappeared, as well as the weekly quests, but the "Road to The International" challenge and Bingo have been added. These are the main ways to pump up the levels of the Battle Pass.

Naturally, there is still the option of buying Compendium levels with real money. The option to buy 8 levels of Compendium for $4.5 is available. You can also gift the Compendium to your friends. The scheme is as follows: for 1 gifted Compendium you will get 2 levels, for 3 Compendiums - 4 more levels, and for 5 - 10 additional levels. Thus, you can get 16 Compendium levels.

How many free Compendium levels can I earn?

To complete the Road to TI challenge and play Bingo, all you need to do is buy any type of Compendium. Then it's a matter of technique and skill, and in rare cases (like with Bingo) luck.

As we mentioned above, there are a total of 48 quests in "Road to Ti". For completing each task you can get 1,000 Compendium points or 1 level. So, by completing all the challenges on the way to The International 2023 you can earn 48 levels.

You can also earn Compendium points in Bingo. Luck decides here: each Bingo line, horizontally and vertically, gives 1,000 points. There are 12 such lines in total, i.e. 12 levels. However, it is not clear until the end, how points for crossing several lines will be counted, and therefore the figure can vary greatly, and randomly. Also, Bingo will be unlocked for each stage and in theory, there could be really many levels.

There's also Fantasy, where Compendium points should also be played out. For now, predictions are closed and it's impossible to estimate how many levels will come from there.

What is known for sure is that you can get 48 free Compendium levels for completing the Road to TI challenge.

Why are there no cosmetics on characters and Arcane items in Compendium?

The answer is pretty trivial: Valve didn't add them. If you dig deeper, you'll find the following message: "We are already working on future innovations affecting various parts of the game. We know that you're eager to learn more about upcoming balance changes, the next Arcana items, and other things we're working on... But that will come after the Champions raise Aegis above their heads. In the meantime, Seattle once again welcomes the best players in the world, and we'll freeze in anticipation."

Most likely, we're in for a sort of 2-part division of the Compendium, as was the case with the last Battle Pass. However, we should wait for official announcements only after the 29th of October, when The International ends.
