FIFA 22 Will Use a New Algorithm That Makes it More Realistic Than Ever
Yuriy SheremetEver since EA Sports released FIFA International Soccer in 1993, the publisher has been striving to recreate the soccer experience for console players. The first offering, released on the Sega Genesis among others, was rudimentary, but it set the tone for what was to follow. Every year since then, there have been various improvements that have led to the realistic games of today. Now, EA Sports has incorporated some new technology that should make the game more akin to real-life soccer than ever before.
Algorithms Enhancing Every Industry
EA recently announced that it had used a hi-tech new algorithm called HyperMotion technology in developing the upcoming FIFA title. This should make the mechanics of the game more akin to real-life soccer than ever before. It’s no surprise that the massive game company has put this form of tech to good use now, as algorithms are currently transforming a number of different industries.
A prime example is the betting industry, which has capitalized on the emergence of algorithms that are able to compute a vast amount of complex data. Some bettors have managed to turn horse racing betting into a fine art, as they take into account all the variables to construct their bets. Nowadays, though, anyone can do it by using a tool that utilizes Artificial Intelligence to produce unprecedented algorithm accuracy in its horse racing predictions. This advanced technology is apparent on YouTube. The platform processes a wealth of data about each of its users to make accurate suggestions about what they may want to watch. It can also be seen in the music-streaming platform, Spotify. The app makes suggestions for its users based on what they frequently listen to.
What is the New Feature on FIFA 22?
EA Sports have employed a similar algorithm to process data about real-life soccer players. HyperMotion uses a combination of motion capture and machine learning, and trawls thousands of hours of footage of professional players. It computes things like how each player receives the ball, what their most common forms of pass are, as well as how they run with or without the ball.

FIFA games have taken into account all of these things before, but it hasn’t been achieved on quite the same scale as it has for FIFA 22. All of the players that feature in the game should be an almost true representation of how they are in real life.
EA Sports Need to Win Some Players Back
The FIFA games have continued to be released annually, despite the shift towards different ways of marketing games in recent times. For EA Sports to justify this, it needs to ensure that each new title provides a better gaming experience than the one that preceded it. With FIFA 21, many players felt as though there weren’t enough new additions. This led to some less-than-ideal reviews, and the new game needs to right those wrongs from last time.
The release of the next generation of consoles, in the form of the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X, should allow EA Sports to develop a better game by using the improved hardware that these consoles possess. FIFA 22 will be the first FIFA game developed for the next-gen consoles, as FIFA 21 was just cosmetically upgraded for the newer consoles, so the developers will be fully aware of how far they can push the mechanics of their game with the powerful new consoles.
Sports games like FIFA have constantly strived to depict the real-life experience, and they are getting closer than ever to achieving that. FIFA 22 will be the most realistic title to date, thanks to the use of advanced algorithms.
