With our first patch in 2024, we're introducing Spectator Mode, a long-awaited feature that takes community tournaments to a new level. At the same time, we haven't forgotten the balance. With the latest mid-patch update, we've adjusted some of the strongest performers in the Arena to make room for other champions. Expect a more consistent and exciting gaming experience with patch 14.2. And don't worry, we're already working on fixing the incorrect level up tooltips in the Arena.
News in League of Legends Patch 14.2
League of Legends continues to expand and change with Patch 14.2. One exciting addition is the Soul Fighters event, which introduces an exciting new dimension to the game. In this theme, we have worked hard to create an immersive experience with a new game mode and embedded meta-games such as Tournament of Souls.
As part of the event, we will be launching Arena, a brand new game mode that is sure to engage and entertain. In addition, we have the built-in meta-game that provides even more depth and strategy for those who enjoy tactical competition. Our newest fighter Naafiri aims to become the undisputed ruler of the Rift and we look forward to seeing how she will reshape the current meta.
But that's not all. Patch 14.2 also marks the start of Ranked Split 2. Here are important things to keep an eye on:
- MidSeason Ranked Reset - A chance to start over and strive for new heights in ranked play
- Rankedkickoff times - Plan your game so you don't miss anything important
- New Changes to Ranked Play - The addition of the new Emerald tier to differentiate between the skill levels even more.
In this week's patch we also see balance changes that include:
- An increase in carry potential on top lane
- A decrease in early jungle gank power
- Adjustments to bot lane mobility
Not to mention the quality improvements and quality of life adjustments to fighters Zyra, Xerath and Lissandra, to name a few. Each update is designed with the aim of creating a more balanced and fair gaming experience for everyone.
Updates in Champions
Changes to Skills
In our quest for a balanced battle arena, we've recognised the dominance of Cassiopeia, especially in her ability E. That's why the Bonus Damage Ratio has been adjusted down from 0.6 to 0.45. Furthermore, the Heal Ratio has been changed; where the previous scale was 0.16 at the fifth scale, it is now adjusted to 0.12. These changes aim to give more champions a chance to shine in the arena and create a more dynamic game environment.
Another example of an adjustment is Kai'Sa whose Passive On-Hit Damage has been reduced by 50%. This is a significant change that could reshape her role in the game. Further, the damage at the fifth bar of her passive ability has been reduced from 15% to 10% of the target's missing health per 100 AP.
Kog'Maw and Kindred have also seen significant adjustments. For Kog'Maw, W Bonus Magic Damage has been reduced as a percentage of the target's maximum health, affecting his scaling ability and potency in later stages of the game. Kindred, on the other hand, have received a reduction in W On-Hit Damage, which can change how they engage in combat and the pursuit of marks.
These examples of skill changes show a clear move towards a more equal and exciting gaming experience.
Adjustments to Statistics
We have also made some adjustments to statistics to promote a more fair and enjoyable experience for all our players. One example is the modified LP Gain; for players in the Emerald Tier and above, the increase in LP per game has been reduced from 25 to around 20. This reflects our understanding of the range of differences at higher levels and helps maintain a balance in player development.
For new players, we have also updated the placement system in Ranked Matching. This aims to better match players with their true skill level from the start, providing a more satisfying progress curve for beginners.
We have also observed how items like Blue Buff and Red Buff have been central to the success of some carries. Therefore, we have lowered their power to facilitate a more varied use of champions without having to perform nerfs. It's important for us to preserve the dynamic of the game and ensure that all champions have a fair chance to utilise their unique strengths.
In addition, we have removed the True Damage Emblem bonus from the Bling Bonus. This is a step towards balancing the attractiveness of the item and the game strategies it promotes.

Updates in Items
New Items
With the start of the 2024 season, we seized the opportunity to revolutionise the support item quest system. Previous items didn't offer much customisation or depth in the builds. Although powerful in an objective sense, they were not satisfactory as some champions or playstyles did not get the support they deserved. The new universal support item that splits into five unique branches is the solution to this dilemma. Now players can choose from five distinct passives, allowing the support items to cover a wider range of champions and playstyles. These changes are designed to make the upgrade moment more engaging and powerful. These upgrades are meant to be powerful as they are usually acquired after you complete your first item. This stage, known as the one and a half item power spike, is actually designed to create a period during the early to mid phase of the game where supports can have their biggest power spikes and impact the game most meaningfully.
Adjustments to Existing Items
After carefully processing the data and feedback from the long patch, as well as our own experiences climbing the ranked ladder, our live team has adjusted a large portion of our item lineup. Almost all AP items have received a buff, while many other items are getting new features to make them more flexible. For example, we've lowered the power of Blue Buff and Red Buff, which have been central to some of our most successful carries in patch 13.24. Ahri is an exception, with a slight nerf to Attack Speed. Additionally, the True Damage Emblem has significantly raised the power and desirability of Spatulas, leading in part to the attraction of Open Forting for early priority on Carousel. For Headliners in your shop, we've adjusted the rules to prevent unpleasant situations where you can't three-star your reroll carry as well as make it harder to hit 3-star 4 and 5-cost champs through the mechanics. The rule changes are as follows:
- 1-2-3 cost Headliners have no restrictions based on the number of copies you own.
- 4-cost Headliners cannot appear if you own more than 4 copies of that champion.
- 5-cost Headliners cannot be displayed if you own more than 3 copies of that champion.
With these customisations, we aim to create a more engaging and satisfying game environment where each player can feel their power grow and adapt their strategies in a meaningful way.
Balancing the Game Map
In the latest update of League of Legends, which is patch 14.2, we have seen careful adjustments to the game map, especially in terms of ganking opportunities and control over the river area.
